“Ethically grounded”

We endeavor to not just inculcate critical, abstractive, analytical, quantitative and integrative habits of the mind, but ethical ones too. We believe that a strong ethical grounding is essential to navigate accelerating change and the increasing complexity of interdependence in business and society and to meet the competing demands of diverse stakeholders and thrive as professionals.

We prepare our students in integrated reasoning so that they are the preferred choice of employers. Many go on to become successful leaders of enterprises— of existing ones and the ones they create. Course Structure:

The Institute adopts the trimester pattern.

The primary objective of the IFMR MBA program is to facilitate students to become successful managers. To achieve this objective we lay a strong foundation in the management by offering a set of core courses in the areas of Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Economics, Information Systems & Operations and Human Resources Management.

First year Core Courses:

The first year MBA programme starts with elaborate, hands-on induction workshops covering subjects like Math for Managers, Excel Skills for Managers, and Soft Skills – Proactiveness and Teamwork. Additional workshops are held throughout the first year where students develop skills on R/Python/Matlab, familiarize themselves with accounting software and packages, and develop perspectives on macroeconomics and contemporary issues.

Summer Project:

The 2-month summer internship at the end of first year is an integral part of management education at IFMR. The project is done under the supervision of both faculty guide and industry managers. It gives the students hands on practical exposure and the valuable experience of working on a project. Building from this, the program offers a wide range of relevant and contemporary electives for the student to specialize in the second year. The grade obtained in the summer project is counted for overall CGPA.

Curriculum & Specializations:

IFMR’s full-time MBA program provides quality management education with a strong foundation in Finance.

IFMR offers 22 core and approximately 55 elective courses during the two-year program, spanning 8 disciplines. Unique specializations offered include Quantitative Finance, Banking, Financial Services & Insurance (BFSI), and Data Sciences (i.e. Business Analytics).

An ever increasing base of corporates comes to IFMR regularly to recruit students from the MBA Course. We have a 100% placement record since the inception of the program.

Specializations

In the first year, the students get a good grounding across all management disciplines. They then undergo a rigorous two-month summer internship in an organisation. In the second year, the specialisation streams available are Data Science (i.e. Business Analytics), Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Marketing, OB & HR, Operations, Quantitative Finance and Strategic Management. These are offered jointly with the support of the industry professionals in curriculum design and delivery.

The Finance, IT and Operations streams prepare students to work as Analysts, Consultants, and Managers for IT, Banking and Financial Services.

Human Resources and Marketing students find attractive opportunities in the corporate and banking sectors.

The Quantitative Finance specialization prepares students for a career in investment banking, securities trading, quantitative modeling, risk management, financial consulting, and applied research.
